As a fertile land for foreign investment, Shanghai will continue to optimize its business environment and always welcome foreign companies to develop business in the city, said government officials.
"Shanghai has always welcomed foreign-funded companies to expand their business here. Currently, there are 80,000 foreign-funded enterprises in Shanghai, and Shanghai's utilization of foreign investment has always been among the top in the country. It is preliminarily predicted that this year will continue to improve," Shen Weihua, director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, said during a news conference on Monday.
Shen said the government launched 20 measures for domestic investment by foreign-invested enterprises, making Shanghai a hot spot for foreign investment.
"The measures we have taken are to adhere to the leadership of openness and continuously expand the access space for foreign investment. We regularly hold work meetings to coordinate and increase foreign investment, so that foreign projects can benefit early in Shanghai," Shen said.
Data from Shanghai showed that 1,076 multinational corporations had their headquarters in Shanghai by 2025, and the actual use of foreign capital was $16.06 billion last year.
Wu Wei, executive vice-mayor of Shanghai, said, "In the next step, we will work together to implement major national strategies, continue to run the China International Import Expo, share market and development opportunities with everyone, vigorously develop foreign investment and industry, continue to promote cross-border trade development, steadily expand financial opening up to the outside world, and continuously deepen international exchanges and cooperation."
