在阿特拉斯950首次亮相两个月后,华为在上海推出了全球首款基于NPO的SuperPoD   2026-09-20

 

Huawei Technologies last Thursday unveiled its latest Ascend 960 SuperPoD computing cluster at the Huawei Connect 2026 conference in Shanghai.

The unveiling came just two months after the company introduced its Atlas 950 SuperPoD at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in the same city.

The Ascend 960 SuperPoD is the industry's first supernode to adopt near-packaged optics (NPO), built on the Ascend 960 chip and Huawei's Hi-ONE optical interconnect system.

It supports up to 4,096 processors, delivers 8 EFLOPS of FP8 computing power, and offers 1 PB of HBM capacity.

By comparison, the Atlas 950 SuperPoD unveiled in July housed 1,024 Ascend chips.

In the Ascend 960 SuperPoD, 5,500 Hi-ONE optical engines replace about 48,000 conventional 800G optical modules, cutting power by over 550 kW, doubling the system’s mean time between failures, and achieving 99.8% availability.

As of now, more than 1,000 Ascend 910C SuperPoDs have been deployed, and the Ascend 950 SuperPoD has entered large-scale commercial use.

The Ascend 960 series is scheduled to be launched successively next year, continuously refining the AI computing layout from chips to SuperPoDs.
