Global technology companies, startups and investors will gather in Shanghai in November for the inaugural Hongqiao Tech Week, a new platform designed to connect global innovation with China's industries and markets while helping Chinese technology companies reach global partners.

The event will be held from Nov 20 to 22 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) in the Hongqiao International Central Business District, organizers announced at a news briefing on Sept 28.

Covering about 50,000 square meters, the event is expected to attract more than 30,000 professional visitors and feature over 200 forums and conferences, as well as more than 2,000 targeted business matchmaking meetings.

Hosted by Informa Markets, Hongqiao Tech Week is part of Informa's Global Tech Festivals portfolio alongside London Tech Week, Africa Tech Festival and ATxEnterprise in Singapore.

Gong Kangkang, vice-president of Informa Asia and managing director of Informa China, said the event is intended to bring global technologies closer to China's industrial markets while helping Chinese technology companies expand overseas.

"The technology, capital and talent are moving in both directions," Gong said. "We want to build a two-way channel between global innovation and the Chinese market."

Yang Xubo, deputy director of the Hongqiao International Central Business District Administrative Commission, said the event will use Hongqiao's role as an open international hub to build a long-term platform for global technology cooperation.

"We will develop and upgrade Hongqiao Tech Week over three years and work to make it an internationally influential technology event," Yang said.

The event will focus on six areas: artificial intelligence, smart infrastructure, future mobility and energy, smart industry, life sciences and health, and startups. Topics will include AI applications, quantum computing, autonomous driving, embodied intelligence, brain-computer interfaces and AI-powered drug discovery.

A dedicated Yangtze River Delta Innovation Corridor exhibition area will showcase the region's research and manufacturing strengths, promoting links between R&D in Hongqiao, manufacturing across the region and global markets.

The organizers will also launch Tech Journey Shanghai, taking participants beyond the exhibition hall to companies, research institutions and innovation platforms.
