勃林格殷格翰在上海设立中国研发中心 2026-10-13

Boehringer Ingelheim has inaugurated its new China Research and Development Center in Zhangjiang Science City, located in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, through which the German drugmaker will raise the proportion of Chinese participation in its early-stage R&D projects to 100 percent.
The new center is designed to integrate four core capabilities, further strengthening the linkage between scientific discovery, early development, and translational research in China, Boehringer Ingelheim announced on October 12. The country has participated in all of the firm’s global pivotal clinical trials and over 70 percent of its early-stage clinical research projects, helping drive global debuts or simultaneous global approvals of multiple innovative drugs, it added.
A newly formed Early Medicine team will advance innovative projects through disease mechanism research, biomarker development, and clinical proof-of-concept studies, Boehringer Ingelheim noted. An External Innovation team will further deepen collaboration with China’s rapidly developing innovation ecosystem, actively identifying, evaluating, and advancing partnership opportunities, supporting more in-licensing and collaboration projects, and contributing to the company’s global R&D pipeline.
China approved three new drugs and five indications from Boehringer Ingelheim over the past two years.
In August, Boehringer Ingelheim announced an upgrade of its footprint in China, noting that it will continue to increase local investment and set up the R&D center under its “China Strategy 2035” to further deepen its presence in the country’s innovation ecosystem and integrate local scientific research and clinical strengths earlier into the firm’s global drug development.
By strengthening its R&D and commercialization capabilities in China, Boehringer Ingelheim expects to secure nearly 20 regulatory approvals in the country by 2030. In the animal health sector, nearly 10 new products and new indications will likely be approved and launched over the period.
