District supports innovation parks
Changning District conducted research recently on motivating creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship as it works in tandem with the municipal government to create a technological and innovation center.
Today many startup hubs and creative industrial parks are sprouting up nationwide with national-level or municipal-level qualifications.
Changning District, meanwhile, is supporting start-up companies that will be able to make sustainable profits, the report said.
According to the report, Changning now has numerous resources and incubation platforms available. The district's technological parks cover everything from enterprises vital to national scientific research to higher education institutions and angel funds.
Red Town is a good example of a creative park. Formerly Shanghai No. 10 Steel Factory in Hongiqao, Red Town has been successfully changed into a home for a number of art galleries, along with cafes, exhibition spaces and offices.
But, some creative parks struggle. The parks lack distinguishing features and improper management, according to the report. It added that government should not merely be satisfied with being a “landlord” and collecting rent. The report said companies need to be carefully screened so that the proper support can be provided to help them succeed.
The district authority said Changning is making further efforts in organizing its resources so creative parks and bases will be upgraded and more successful. Meanwhile, the district is looking to establish some smaller scale parks in order to form a complete set with the bigger established parks.
