Leaves to go unswept on lanes of gold
ANYONE who loves tramping through autumn leaves should make their way to Zaoyang, Huaxi and Tongbai roads in Putuo District, where there will be plenty of crunch underfoot in the coming weeks.
Local officials have promised not to sweep the three tree-lined lanes so that people can enjoy not only the golden canopies above their heads but also the crispy fallen foliage beneath their feet.
The no-sweep rule applies during daylight hours from Monday through December 6, officials said. The men with brushes will clean up each night, and be on standby during the day, just in case a sudden downpour threatens to turn the satisfying leafy crunchiness into a slimy, slippy safety risk.
