V Hub emerges as creative epicenter for digital content

V Hub welcomes its first online content makers.
A sleek new capsule lounge, high-end livestream studios, and a rooftop message that says "sleep no more." These are a few of the variables that shape the newly unveiled V Hub in Yangpu District, the newest addition to Shanghai's rapidly expanding content economy.
The hub at KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) is designed as a multi-level incubator for digital content creators, reflecting Yangpu's desire to become a center for technology-driven storytelling.
Shanghai is home to nearly 4 million online content creators, including more than one-third of Bilibili's top 100 influencers.
The capsule lounge
In response to the thriving ecosystem, local governments are opening up landmark sites, cultural venues, and creative streets for content creation.
Yangpu's Internet entertainment business was worth over 80 billion yuan (US$11 billion) in 2024. The region is home to startups like Agora and digital behemoths like Bilibili and Meituan.
The newly opened V Hub spans three stories. The first level contains an integrated service center that offers "one-stop" government and commercial support.
A shared meeting and dining space
The second and third floors are packed with multifunctional workspaces for livestreaming, training, filming, and post-production.
Creators have access to professional green screen studios, voice-over booths, and special effects editing centers. There are also a dozen sleeping pods, table tennis tables, swings, and pet cats to help inspire and relieve pressure.
The first floor's "Bloom of Hope" offers wellness amenities. The second floor's "Inspiration Rainforest" serves as a zone for new ideas. The third floor's "Vibrant Orchard" fosters cross-industry collaboration.
A shared space for creators
The hub near the Wujiaochang subcenter and the historical Jiangwan Stadium is nestled between top universities – Fudan, Tongji, and the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. It also connects to the bustling Daxue Road, or the popular University Avenue pedestrian zone.
Yan Qiuqiu, livestream director at Xinmin Evening News, found unexpected inspiration in the shared space.
"As someone from traditional media, I learned a lot just by doing a joint livestream with a Bilibili content creator and uploader," he said. "Different platforms, different audiences, different languages – it's a creative melting pot."
Sleeping pods for online content creators
Qian Shengdong, a Shanghai resident who photographs street life and culture, said the additional incentives are important to his team.
"We've produced many vlogs about Yangpu and Shanghai. With a potential 100,000 yuan award for content with real impact, I'm definitely interested."
His works have attracted international admirers, and Tim Cook and Scarlett Johansson have appeared on his shows.
A shared space for livestreams
Their V Hub office is twice as large as before. "This space feels like a major leap," he said. "The energy here is contagious."
Coinciding with the launch of the hub, Yangpu released its "YOUNG Cube" policy initiative, a set of 18 measures across six support areas: rent relief, grants, services, investment, subsidies, and governance. Highlights of the policy include full rent and property fee waivers for new tenants during their first year. Eligible firms can receive livestreaming subsidies of up to 500,000 yuan.
There are swings in the rest area
High-impact content providers can win up to 100,000 yuan in creative awards. A 1 billion yuan investment fund has also been established in partnership with major platforms to support emerging projects.
Recognized creators can apply for 2 million yuan in housing subsidies and priority household registration in Shanghai.
"We fully support the city's broader policies and enhance them further," said Ni Bing, deputy director of Yangpu.
Yan Qiuqiu, Xinmin Evening News livestream director and online influencer, plays table tennis at the new facility.
Tech reviewer Su Xingheniutong, who has nearly 3 million followers, appreciated how the policy legitimizes inventors as professionals.
"For years, we lacked a clear job identity. This new policy changes that by recognizing titles such as 'All-Media Operation Specialist' and providing pathways like press awards and university-backed training," he said.
"It finally gives us both recognition and a sense of purpose."
