City showcases green feats to mark National Low Carbon Day

More than 450,000 people have joined Shanghai's carbon-reduction platform in the year since its launch in June 2025, according to city authorities.

The platform, available through the city's Suishenban app, has registered nearly 1,000 emissions-reduction projects and recorded more than 330,000 tons of verified emissions cuts.

The figures were highlighted on Wednesday as Shanghai marked China's 2026 National Low Carbon Day with a public event at Daning Park in Jing'an District focused on climate action and sustainable living.

The event featured an exhibition on Shanghai's climate adaptation efforts, highlighting projects developed during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).

Speakers shared examples including meteorological monitoring technologies, climate-resilient construction on Chongming Island, and the renovation of Heping Park using sponge city approaches to improve urban water management.

A postcard series titled "Green Mobility in Shanghai" were also released, featuring hand-drawn city maps, local landmarks and suggested low-carbon travel routes covering walking, cycling, public transport and electric vehicles
