Nobel Prize laureate becomes permanent Shanghai resident
Kurt Wüthrich, a Swiss scientist and Nobel Chemistry laureate, became a permanent Shanghai resident on Monday.
The 79-year-old, who now works at Shanghai Science and Technology University, was the first ever Nobel laureate to gain a Chinese green card, according to Shanghai's Public Security Bureau.
He received half of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2002 for his work developing nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to help ascertain the size and structure of biological macromolecules. His findings have proved invaluable in allowing scientists to better analyze molecules across a number of fields, including medicine.
