Outdoor delights for music fans

Nearly 40 outdoor concerts from home and abroad will be held free of charge throughout the year as part of an annual music festival that starts next weekend.
The Shanghai City Lawn Concert series will be held on the lawn to the south of Shanghai Concert Hall on Yan'an Road E. from April 13.
The concerts aim to promote the classics among local citizens without the need to go to concert halls. Nearly 280,000 people have enjoyed the annual musical feast, which has been held for six years, said Huang Zhijian, deputy director of the district's culture and tourism bureau.
Audience can secure free tickets through WeChat account (huangpuwenhua) and ticket machines beside the lawn.
This year the festival is cooperating with the organizing committees of the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, the Shanghai International Arts Festival, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Shanghai Concert Hall.
The opening concert will be presented by the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra. Award-winning violinist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky and accordionists from Eastern Europe will present two concerts on April 14.
The summer concerts will mainly feature foreign ensembles and art groups. A total of 26 concerts will be presented between mid-October and early November.
Jazz music from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will be performed on the lawn in winter to complement the romantic atmosphere created by golden ginkgo trees across the area, Huang said.
