First batch of New Zealand kiwifruit arrives in Shanghai
This year’s first batch of imported New Zealand kiwifruit, totaling 3,819 tons or 850,000 cartons, arrived at Shanghai Nangang Wharf on April 6.
The kiwifruit, shipped by the Southampton Star freighter, passed inspection and quarantine quickly after customs officials took a sample to the laboratory and conducted a series of food safety inspections.
Yangshan Port Customs said that they have unified the entry-exit and quarantine measures and simplified the procedures to ensure faster clearance. The customs clearance of imported fruits has been cut to less than 24 hours.
Last year, China replaced Japan to become the biggest market for Zespri kiwifruit and the company is set to export over 600,000 trays of kiwifruit to meet the increasing demand of Chinese customers this year.
