Catch the tastes of late summer
Meiji Kyoto
Meiji Kyoto on Julu Road is now offering a seasonal matsutake mushroom meal in Kansai style. Chef Yamamoto Yukiharu from Kyoto, with more than 30 years' experience in the kitchen, always believes that simple is the best.
As the highlight of the menu, the seasonal matsutake are from the mountains of southwest China’s Yunnan Province. Whether the matsutake are in soup, tempura or noodles, they are full of aroma and delightful flavor.
Don't miss the chance to try the cold noodles topped with matsutake. Generally, the noodles should be consumed within five minutes. When you eat them, the noises you make will not be seen as a rude behaviour, but rather as a tribute to its delicious taste.
Another stand-out of the menu is the steamed egg bowl topped with seafood. This feast of seafood features squid, salmon, abalone, shrimp, eels and raw sea urchins. Chopped okra is added for extra flavor.
The staple food is beef spring roll with foie gras. The foie gras has a special taste because it is marinated with salt and pepper first, and then wrapped in spring rolls. They are deep fried slowly in low temperature oil. At last, the chef will add some home-made beef sauce.
Located in a four-story Kyoto-style villa, the restaurant features two sushi bars, 19 private rooms and a 30-square-meter garden. At the sushi bar, the chef makes tailor-made sushi and presents the freshest pieces in front of you.

For seafood lovers, you can try signature dishes like tom yam goong (prawn soup cooked with mushroom, lime leaf and lemongrass), goong phad pong kari (Thai-style fried crab or shrimp meat), and deep-fried crab meat mixed with minced chicken and topped with salted egg yolk. Through October 31, you can get 30 percent off the goong phad pong kari.
The Thai green papaya salad mixed with dried shrimp, sliced tomato, long beans, peanuts and chilli is another must-try. You should definitely try it with the restaurant's home-made sauces.

Dingtele Noodle Restaurant
With a 10-year history of serving noodles and porridge on Huaihai Road M., Dingtele is now reopened after interior renovation. Noodles and porridge are a quick lunch for office workers but also a comforting food for night-snack lovers.
Dingtele uses fresh egg noodles in white soup made with bones of chicken and pork. The signature toppings here are braised pork liver, fried eels with sesame oil and white pepper, baoyu (deep-fried fish with sweet glaze) and stewed meat. In different seasons, special toppings are served in limited quantity. Now is the perfect time to try the boneless yellow croaker noodles. In addition to the fish meat, the dish includes a rich soup stewed with pork and fish bones. Pickles are recommended for added flavor.
There's also fungus and shrimp porridge, and mushroom and chicken porridge. The chef cooks the porridge on a low heat for hours to make sure it is thick and fragrant.
