The China (Shanghai) Chrysanthemum Exhibition will open at Gongqing Forest Park in Yangpu District on Saturday, featuring flowers from across China, including some rare varieties.
The exhibition, first held in 1982 and now in its 13th version, is the largest and most important chrysanthemum event in China.
Cities across China that represent the highest level of chrysanthemum art will be present at the exhibition, which will run through November 26.
There are two other venues at Huilongtan Park in Jiading District and Fangta Park in Songjiang District.
A total exhibition area of around 70,000 square meters will feature chrysanthemum displays, bonsai and flower arrangements in 11 display areas.
There are 43 outdoor displays celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the achievements Shanghai has made over the decades at the forest park.
Nine competition areas will feature nearly 5,000 pots of chrysanthemums amid the background of classic Chinese gardens.
About 250 pots of new hybrid varieties of the flower and new planting technologies will also be on display.
Thirteen experts will present 78 flower arrangements.
A chrysanthemum bazaar will showcase products related to the flower and visitors will be invited to taste food made from chrysanthemums.
There will be 13 arches made of chrysanthemums, eight chrysanthemum bridges and various chrysanthemum landscapes at the forest ark, turning it into a sea of color.
Eight chrysanthemum-related cultural events will be hosted during the exhibition.
A light show using artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality technologies will project a hundred-meter flower corridor on the ground at the Gongqing park.
A chrysanthemum calligraphy, painting and porcelain engraving exhibition will also be held.
A fashion show, a health run, photography competitions, Chinese opera performances and charity activities will also be held during the exhibition.
At Fangta Park, folk culture activities such as hanfu (traditional Han clothing) and cheongsam shows and martial art performances will be staged and there will be an exhibition of historical photographs.
Shanghai has hosted three of the chrysanthemum exhibitions.
