Foreign companies in Jing’an District are making big contributions to the ongoing battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic.

So far, 24 foreign companies have donated cash and supplies worth 68 million yuan (US$9.8 million), the Jing’an Commerce Commission told Shanghai Daily on Thursday.

Luxury group LVMH, whose Chinese headquarters is in Jing’an, has donated 16 million yuan to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation, hoping to relieve the shortage of medical supplies in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.

LVMH peer, Kering, has donated 7.5 million yuan to the Hubei Red Cross Foundation. The money will be used to support patients and medical staff, professional training and improving public health knowledge.

L‘oreal has donated 5 million yuan to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation to buy masks, goggles and protective outfits for use in Wuhan.

Pharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb has donated cash and vitamin products, with a total value of 5 million yuan. It is working with its domestic partner, Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding Co, to ensure the medicines are sent to frontline medical staff as soon as possible.

Starbucks China has donated 3 million yuan to purchase supplies for medical staff in Wuhan.

Pfizer China has donated anti-infectives with a value of 2.2 million yuan to treat patients in Wuhan.

Pfizer launched the global headquarters of its generic and off-patent drug unit Pfizer Upjohn in Jing’an about eight months ago.

Besides donating 2 million yuan to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation, Takeda China is also working to allocating medical supplies worth 1 million yuan from Japan to China. The first batch of 30,000 N95 facial masks and 100,000 surgical masks left Japan on January 24, and they will arrive in China on January 31.

Essential oil company doTERRA China has donated 400,000 yuan to Shanghai Charity Foundation to be used to buy medical supplies for medical staff in Wuhan, and 600,000-yuan worth of liquid soap to help in the prevention and control of the outbreak here in Shanghai.

Boehringer Ingelheim has donated over 7 million yuan of cash and goods. It has also purchased 100,000 N95 masks, valued at more than 2 million yuan, for Wuhan. It also has plans to donate 4 million yuan worth of Mucosolvan, the company’s cough medicine.

Philips China has responded by transporting more than 2,000 pieces of medical equipment, including breathing machines, to Shenzhen and Chengdu.

Among others, Vale of Brazil has donated 3.3 million yuan. Sanofi, Coach China, AstraZeneca China, Mary Kay and Inditex China have donated 1 million yuan respectively.

According to the Jing’an Commerce Commission, more donations continue to pour in.
