City's strategic industries output jumps 8.9%
Shanghai’s strategic industry output jumped 8.9 percent in 2020 thanks to rapid development in new-energy cars, integrated circuits, artificial intelligence and biomedicine industries, the city’s industry regulator said on Tuesday.
It reached 1.39 trillion yuan (US$213.8 billion), jumping 8.9 percent from the previous year, much higher than the 1.7 percent growth in the city’s GDP, Shanghai’s economy and informatization commission said.
Shanghai's three “leading growth industries” — integrated circuits, biomedicine and artificial intelligence — have boosted the city's digital economy and innovation-oriented transformation.
