Shanghai Waigaoqiao N0.3 Power Generation Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of Shenergy, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Established in 2005, it boasts two 1 million-kilowatt ultra-supercritical coal-fired generators, making them one of the pioneering domestically-produced units of this kind in China.

As the exclusive “National Coal Power Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Demonstration Base” in the country, Shenergy Waigaoqiao N0.3 Power Generation has achieved remarkable milestones by once setting a global record for the lowest annual average coal consumption for power supply at 276 g/kWh. Recognized by the International Energy Agency as “the world’s cleanest thermal power plant,” it has gained acclaim for its exceptional environmental performance.

Following a strategic trajectory that prioritizes scientific and technological innovation, Shenergy Waigaoqiao N0.3 Power Generation has spearheaded nearly 30 major advancements in energy conservation and emission reduction. These efforts have yielded over 60 patent achievements, including 23 that rank as international firsts. By rewriting the historical narrative of China’s power industry and surpassing the achievements of developed nations like Europe, America, and Japan, the company has positioned itself as a global benchmark in the field of thermal power, setting new standards for the entire industry.

2.Nanshi Waterworks of Shanghai Chengtou Water Group

Nanshi Waterworks is a part of Shanghai Chengtou Water (Group) Co., Ltd., a water treatment company. It is situated in the riverside region of Huangpu District and has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1902. With a current designed water supply capacity of 700,000 cubic meters per day, it stands as a century-old tap water facility. It is responsible for providing production and potable water to over 1.5 million residents in downtown Shanghai. In August 2007, the relocation and reconstruction of the Nanshi Waterworks commenced, and it was officially operationalized in July 2009. Leveraging the upgrade and transformation of the original site, the waterworks was revitalized to become the first modern waterworks in Shanghai to achieve comprehensive advanced treatment. It utilizes an innovative combined process involving ozonation with biological activated carbon. Since 2019, Chengtou Water has initiated the construction of the Huangpu Water Supply Demonstration Zone and introduced the concept of “smart supply, agile control, direct drinking, and intelligent service.” Covering an area of approximately 9.5 square kilometers with a permanent population of around 424,000, this demonstration area serves as an exemplar for water supply practices. The Nanshi Waterworks, facilitated by two midway pumping stations within the area, provides water supply services to the entire demonstration zone.

In the same year, Nanshi Waterworks embarked on the construction of a state-of-the-art digital waterworks. This advanced system incorporates elements such as three-dimensional simulation, data interaction, operation simulation, and simulation control. By digitally mapping the actual waterworks, it enables operation simulation, monitoring, diagnosis, prediction, and control, thereby mitigating uncertainties throughout the operational processes. The first phase of this construction endeavor was completed in 2022 and has commenced production and operation. This milestone achievement will establish Nanshi Waterworks as the inaugural digital twin waterworks within Shanghai’s water industry.
