According to the World Cities Day schedule, the
award ceremony of the Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities
(Shanghai Award) and the 2023 China Observance of World Cities Day will be held
in Shanghai from October 28th to October 31st by the Ministry of Housing and
Urban-Rural Development, the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and the
United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). The opening
ceremony is tentatively scheduled to be held in the afternoon of October 28 at
the Grand Halls. Relevant theme and special forums, exhibitions and displays
will be held in other venues including the Shanghai Expo Center and the
Shanghai World EXPO Exhibition & Convention Center. We hereby sincerely

Cities (Shanghai Award) and the 2023 China Observance of World Cities Day Basic Information This year’s Global Observance of World Cities
Day will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, with the theme of “Financing Sustainable
Urban Future for All”. The Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities
(Shanghai Award) and the 2023 China Observance of World Cities Day are
scheduled to be held in Shanghai from October 28 to October 31, with basic
information as follows: I Overview Activities and events focusing on the award
ceremony of the first cycle of Shanghai Award, the 2023 China Observance of
World Cities Day, and the 3rd SDG Cities Global Conference (hereinafter
referred to as the “Cities Conference”), etc. are organized by the Ministry of
Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China, the
United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Shanghai
Municipal People’s Government. All these ceremonies, forums, exhibitions, and
themed visits are expected to have about 1,500 guests, including about 400 at
the opening ceremony. II Events 1. Opening Ceremony. The
opening ceremony is scheduled for the afternoon of October 28th in the Starry
Sky Hall of the Grand Halls. On the agenda are the award ceremony of the first
cycle of Shanghai Award, the Habitat III, and Mayor Forums, etc. 2. Forums. Forums
organized in cooperation with relevant units on hot topics of urban sustainable
development such as economy, society, and environment. 3. Two Exhibitions. A World
Cities Day themed tour exhibition is scheduled for October 28 outside the
main venue for the opening ceremony. The 2023 Shanghai International City
and Architecture Expo will be held as a supporting event at Shanghai World
EXPO Exhibition & Convention Center from October 30 to November 1. The
exhibition covering an area of nearly 50,000 square meters is themed “Green
Low-Carbon City, Smart Transformation and Development”. 4. Themed Visits. During the
China Observance of World Cities Day, guests from abroad and China’s other
provinces and cities will cruise to inspect the urban construction and
development on both sides of the Huangpu River.
