Situated within the confines of the Shanghai Bailonggang Sewage Treatment Plant, the largest of its kind in Asia, this project leverages the cutting-edge capabilities of the Shanghai Municipal Sludge Treatment and Resource Utilization Technology and Equipment Research and Verification Base, also known as the Shanghai Sludge Treatment and Resource Utilization Technology Innovation Center. At its core, the project harnesses the potential of photovoltaic power generation within the sewage plant, utilizing electric energy to electrolyze reclaimed water for hydrogen production. Additionally, biogas generated through the anaerobic digestion of sludge serves as another source for hydrogen production. What sets this project apart is its integration of safe hydrogen storage technology and equipment, hydrogen fuel cells, and high-efficiency hydrogen scenarios, culminating in a world-first achievement: the realization of the full chain application that includes green hydrogen production, solid-state hydrogen storage, and cogeneration, while demonstrating circular economy principles.

Through comprehensive application research spanning the entire industrial chain of “hydrogen production-hydrogen storage-high-value utilization” within the urban sewage treatment domain, this project stands poised to catalyze transformative change. Its overarching objective is to spearhead technological innovation and facilitate a paradigm shift in the sewage treatment industry. By doing so, it not only fosters the advancement of the hydrogen energy sector but also plays a pivotal role in promoting the principles of the circular economy. At its core, this initiative holds profound implications for the realization of strategic objectives such as carbon peak and carbon neutrality. 2. Shanghai Chengtou Water Group Co., Ltd.

Shanghai Chengtou Water Group Co., Ltd. stands as a formidable presence in the realm of urban water infrastructure, representing a state-owned enterprise group dedicated to investment, construction, operation, and management within this vital sector. Established in 2014, the group comprises eight core companies, collectively employing nearly 9,000 individuals. Their multifaceted operations cover a wide array of essential services, including raw water supply across central Shanghai and select suburbs, tap water production, transmission, distribution, and associated sales services. Additionally, they oversee critical functions such as rainwater and flood control, trunk line transportation, sewage treatment, sludge management, as well as water supply and distribution investment, water infrastructure construction and management and water environment-related research and development.

Within the urban sewage and sludge treatment domain, the company boasts an impressive portfolio of 16 sewage treatment projects, boasting a combined designed sewage treatment capacity of 6.3705 million cubic meters per day.
