Dear journalists,

The forum of “2019 CIIE Sister Cities Cooperation Forum:  Sharing CIIE Opportunities for Greater Opening-up and Cooperation” will be held at the Jinjiang Grand Hall (59 Maoming South Road) from 14: 00 to 17: 30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.

The forum is co-organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal people's Government, the Shanghai people's Association for Friendship with Foreign countries and the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies as a supporting event of The Second China International Import Expo (CIIE).  This forum will discuss on two topics: (1) CIIE and new opportunities for the world, (2) Striving for open and win-win development through sister cities partnership.

Topic I: CIIE and new opportunities for the world

Guiding question:

How do we look at the significance of CIIE for the growth of China and the rest of the world, including opportunities and challenges? CIIE is an important strategic measure of China to further open up its market. China plans to achieve trade balance and advance the supply-side structural reform through increasing import of high-quality goods. A major propeller of the world trade balance and a new round of globalization, China’s huge market potential offers external space to export and economic growth of other regions. CIIE will become a key barometer of the growth of international trade and world economy.

Guiding question:

Sister cities cooperation is a major channel of international exchange. As a permanent platform of host diplomacy, how can CIIE further enrich the cooperation between Shanghai and its sister cities? Against the backdrop of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), sister cities cooperation is becoming an important vehicle to advance more pragmatic cooperation between countries. As a BRI hub, how can Shanghai contribute to open and win-win development through sister cities cooperation?
