River bank redeveloped into a new South Bund - April 24, 2015
黄浦江南岸闵行段开发将于2017年完成
Major redevelopment work on the southern banks of the Huangpu River in Minhang is on schedule and set to be completed in 2017.
According to local urban planning authorities, the bank area, known as the “Southern Bund,” will be turned into a cultural, commercial and ecological landmark.
The shabby old ferry port adjacent to the Pujiang Huayuan neighborhood in the Jiangchuan area has been demolished, and an outdoor garbage waste yard removed.
They have been replaced by a new greenbelt that includes walkways and a waterfront esplanade. A new flood wall with hollowed-out railings and modern lamp posts reminiscent of the Bund have been installed.
The project is one of Shanghai’s key redevelopment programs.
Once completed, the area will also include commercial buildings, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels and exposition centers.
A new ferry port will be constructed at the intersection of Lanping and Pujiang roads. It will accommodate passenger volumes of up to 30,000 people a day. Five new public bus routes will connect to the ferry. Planning officials said the area will include water tourism attractions.
