Waterfront Market Takes Center Stage at Returnees Town Festival

A waterfront market and a job fair for overseas returnees brought food, live music, creative projects and recruitment opportunities to Shanghai's suburban Fengxian District on Wednesday.

The Ganhai Market and recruitment fair were part of the second Shanghai Returnees Town International Festival.

The town in Fengxian New City is China's seventh such development and the only one in Shanghai. It supports people returning from overseas to start businesses, with a focus on biotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled smart devices.

The market takes place on the outdoor waterfront platform at the JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai Fengxian. Nearly 100 stalls are planned across six themed areas, covering services for returnees, entrepreneurial projects, local products, live music, leisure activities, and food and drinks.

Visitors can explore products developed by entrepreneurs who have returned to China, browse crafts from Fengxian and try hands-on activities. Bands will perform through the afternoon, while food and drink options include small steamed buns, coffee and baked goods.

For a more interactive visit, collect a map at the market's service station and earn stamps by completing activities at participating stalls. These include quizzes, hopscotch and craft-making. Collect the required number of stamps to exchange for gifts, available while supplies last.

Inside the hotel, the recruitment fair will occupy the first-floor multifunction hall. Its updated poster lists more than 70 companies and over 500 positions, spanning sectors including biomedicine, smart equipment, semiconductors, new materials and new energy. Jobseekers can also seek help with resumes, interview preparation and career planning.

Free shuttle transport will connect Jinhai Lake Station of Metro Line 5 with the venue.
