Luwan No.1 School continues New Year tradition - January 31, 2019

卢湾第一中心小学带学生过中国年

Students at the Luwan No. 1 Primary School in Huangpu District of Shanghai celebrated the New Year with a feast of Chinese culture on campus recently.

This activity has been held for 15 years with the aim of educating students on Chinese traditional culture such as old Shanghai style, Chinese operas, Chinese inventions, Chinese literature and animation, and Chinese cuisine. And this year, it focused on Chinese inventions, such as the four great inventions of ancient China — compass, gunpowder, papermaking and printing, and modern technologies of robots.

As usual, there were traditional Chinese ways of New Year celebrations, such as writing couplets and the Chinese character “fu,” which means fortune.

The school hopes that students will learn more about Chinese traditional culture and fall in love with the Chinese festival through these activities.

The school has also celebrated other Chinese festivals, such as the Lantern Festival, Tomb-sweeping Day and Dragon Boat Festival.
