New Chedun relies on Old Shanghai - January 04, 2015

上海影视公园2期工程将回归老上海

SECOND phase construction at Shanghai Film Park highlights progress in Chedun Town’s plans to turn itself into a new center of culture and creativity, using the backdrop of 1930s Shanghai.

Old Shanghai is becoming the new Chedun.

When the project is finished in 2016, the film park will host more Old Shanghai landmarks, such as the Golden Gate Hotel, the North Shanghai Railway Station and the Peace Hotel.

As one of China’s 10 major film production centers, the park produces about 10 films a year and more than 5,000 episodes of TV dramas.

The new 11.2-hectare project will also feature some of Shanghai’s more venerable old sites, such as the Big World Amusement Park, the Paramount Club and the Xinxin Department Store. In addition, hotels and restaurants are also planned.

On the northern side of the film park, Chedun is investing in replicas of Waibaidu Bridge, Chen Yi Square and the old Shiliupu Dock.

“The additions enrich the park and its tourism potential,” said town director Cao Leijun.

Last year the town invested in the San Lin Culture and Creative Co, which attracted more than 200 projects, including business from advertising companies, film agencies and media offices.

Many renowned film directors, actors and scriptwriters have settled in Chedun, adding celebrity sparkle to the community.

The Shanghai Art Gallery of East China Normal University and the Art Research Center of the Shanghai University of Engineering Science are among established institutions that have centered their activities in Chedun.

The town now boasts an integrated business chain, including film sets, photographic equipment camera and prop leasing, post-production marketing, animation and PC games and TV commercials.
