特斯拉再次宣布涨价 2023-05-07
After embarking on a series of price cuts since the beginning of the year, Tesla started to raise the price of its new energy vehicles earlier this month as the US electric car startup moves to a real-time pricing model similar to that used in the civil aviation, hotel and ride-hailing sectors to protect its bottom line.
The starting price of the Model 3 has been increased by CNY2,000 (USD290) to CNY231,900 (USD33,569) in China, according to the California-based company’s website. The price has also gone up in the US, Canada and Japan and the entry-level Model 3 now costs USD40,240 in the US. Prices of other models have also been raised but they are still lower than a year ago.
The price hike comes shortly after Tesla released its first-quarter financial report, revealing a sharp drop in the firm’s gross profit margin for the first time in nine quarters to below the warning line of 20 percent.
It would appear that Tesla is now adopting a real-time pricing model which reflects current supply and demand conditions and is a big deviation from the fixed pricing model normally used in the automotive industry.
"Our recent pricing strategy takes into account long-term profitability of every single car, and it is expected that prices will continue to fluctuate because of multiple factors,” a company insider told Yicai Global on the release of the earnings report.
Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said previously that the company is prioritizing sales over profits, but that prices would be raised when possible.
Tesla’s price reductions have triggered a price war in China’s NEV sector, causing more than 40 carmakers, both Chinese and foreign, to cut their prices in the country.
