肖像主题展在上海揭幕 2023-07-23
A portrait-themed exhibition jointly launched by the Centre Pompidou of France and the West Bund Museum in Shanghai opened on Friday.
Entitled "Mirrors of the Portrait," the exhibition is the third part of the museum's modern and contemporary art series, following "The Shape of Time" in 2019 and "The Voice of Things" in 2021.
Taking portraits as a clue, the exhibition explores the history of modern and contemporary art and tells the development of society by presenting portraits of different identities, fields, or social statuses, while depicting the historical development of the creative method of the portrait and its transformation.
During the 16-month exhibition period, the works of the exhibition will be updated twice, bringing together nearly 300 pieces from the Centre Pompidou collection from 1895 to the present, covering paintings, sculptures, and photographs.
The exhibition presents the largest number of works ever at the museum. Works by Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Zao Wou-Ki, and other representative artists of the 20th century will be on show at the exhibition.
A series of forums, public education activities, and parent-child activities will also take place. The exhibition will last until Nov. 5, 2024.
