Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro Moros made a stop in Shanghai and met with Shanghai Party chief Chen Jining last Sunday as he continues his state visit to China which started on Sep 8 and will end on Sep 14.

Maduro thanked Shanghai for its warm reception and said he would support Venezuelan enterprises in participating in the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai.

Maduro said that using the state visit as an opportunity he looked forward to take the cooperation between the two countries to a new stage, deepening cooperation in economy, trade, technology, tourism, and local exchange.

Chen Jining said he welcomed Venezuelan companies to participate in the 6th CIIE and welcomed them to bring more unique products, culture, and services to Shanghai, entering the Chinese market and sharing the opportunities of China's modernization.

President Maduro is paying a state visit to China from September 8 to 14, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced on Friday.

China and Venezuela are comprehensive strategic partners and the China-Venezuela relations have withstood the test of the evolving international landscape and remained rock-solid, said Mao Ning, another spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, at a regular press briefing on Friday.

Prior to his visit to Shanghai, Maduro visited South China’s Shenzhen as his first stop to China. Right after arriving in Shenzhen, he posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday that he is ready for what will be a historic visit to strengthen cooperation ties and to build a new global geopolitical landscape.

During his visit to Shenzhen President Maduro said he is most impressed by China's technological development, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

When asked about the reason for choosing Shenzhen as the first stop of his trip, Maduro said, "For those who are looking for development, technology, and new inventions, Shenzhen is an important place, so it is a good starting point."

Maduro also showed an interest in Chinese smart phone maker Huawei, according to Venezuelan local media.

According to a local television show which aired on September 4, when commenting on the launch of Huawei's latest Mate 60 Pro, Maduro said that he congratulates Huawei on making the technological breakthrough despite years of unjust sanctions and suppression from Western countries.

Maduro also revealed that he is currently using a Huawei smartphone, and he is satisfied with its user experience and security.

He further called on Venezuelan scientists to learn from Chinese companies, daring to innovate in the field of new technologies and driving Venezuela's technological development.
