Chinese, US, Russian firms showcase latest jet engines at Shanghai AirshowJet engine makers Aero Engine Corporation of China, the US’ GE Aerospace and Russia’s United Engine Corp. were among 200 Chinese and foreign companies whose latest aviation products were on display at the first Shanghai International Commercial Airshow, which ended on November 25.
Visitors could admire the CJ-1000A, the first-ever high-bypass turbofan engine whose intellectual property rights belong entirely to China, at Aero Engine’s booth. The engine is in the final stages of certification. Once certified, it will be used to power the homegrown narrowbody twinjet airliner Comac C919 which currently uses GE Aerospace’s LEAP-1C engine.
The CJ-2000, which will be used on the long-haul widebody airliner Comac C929 that is still in development, was also on show at the Beijing-based company's display area.
GE Aerospace was exhibiting its LEAP engine series, including the LEAP-A and LEAP-B which power the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 Max airliners respectively. And Moscow-based UEC was showcasing its independently-developed high-bypass turbofan engine, the PD-14.
Aero Engine Corp’s CJ-2000 takes center stage at the airshow, which covered the entire aerospace industrial chain.
