Members of the Netherlands Chamber Choir, led by chief conductor Peter Dijkstra, made a visit to Fudan University on the eve of the premiere in the Chinese mainland of their multi-media performance Van Gogh in Me, on March 5.

Van Gogh in Me is an immersive audiovisual experience jointly produced by the choir and Italian multidisciplinary art studio fuse*. It will run for two consecutive nights at Shanghai Grand Theatre on March 6 and 7.

During the performance real-time data is collected via microphones and sensors, which detect and track the emotions, gestures and singing of the people taking part in the performance, which subsequently influence the visual output on the big screens that present re-imagined animated artworks by Vincent van Gogh and contemporary artist Gustav Klimt.

Van Gogh in Me leads audiences on a emotionally charged journey through the life time of Klimt and Van Gogh, and the historical context of the Europe, with music chosen from composers of the time: Saint-Saens, Debussy, Satie, Mahler, Strauss and Schonberg.

On the Fudan University Campus, Dijkstra and members of the choir met and spoke with Chen Yu, a deputy professor of the university who is also conductor of the student's chorus, and Professor Qian Zhenxing of the Computer Science College. Singers of the Netherlands Chamber Choir collaborated with the Fudan University Student's Chorus and performed highlights of the concert.
