Shanghai's first humanoid robots plant to start deliveries in October, report says

The first humanoid robots factory in Shanghai, built by local startup Agibot, will reportedly start deliveries in October and ship 200 bipedal and 100 wheeled robots by the end of this year.

The plant has entered the final preparation stage for mass production, The Paper reported on August 18, citing Jiang Qingsong, vice president of marketing services and partner at Agibot. All production lines have been completed and are being set up accordingly, Jiang added.

Agibot released five new bipedal and wheeled commercial robots at a launch event on the same day. They cover various application scenarios, including interactive services, flexible smart manufacturing, special tasks, scientific research and education, and data collection.

"There will be small-scale production this October," Jiang said. "The factory's output will reach 100 units by November and more the month after."

Agibot will open-source Lingxi X1, one of its newly released bipedal humanoid robots, in a full-stack manner, with its core parts already being sold on the company's online store, it noted, adding that it will later publish most design material and codes to help more developers take part in the development and manufacturing of humanoid robots.

Established in the Lingang Special Area, a special economic space in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, in February last year, Agibot debuted its first universal humanoid robot prototype, the RAISE AI, six months later. The firm's founder Peng Zhihui previously worked on artificial intelligence chips and algorithms at tech giant Huawei Technologies.

The Lingang Special Area provided great help in the early development of Agibot, including offering an excellent testing space for robots' interactive services, Jiang said. The pair will broaden their cooperation scope after the commercialization of the company's products, Jiang added.
