中国能源企业计划在西班牙建设绿氢工业园区   2024-09-11

China’s Envision to Invest in USD1 Billion Green Hydrogen Industrial Park in Spain

Chinese green energy firm Envision Group is joining a consortium of investors that will inject USD1 billion to develop Europe’s first net zero industrial park for green hydrogen, which is regarded as a key solution for decarbonization in the industrial and transportation sectors.

The net zero industrial park will provide design, research, manufacturing and other services for green hydrogen, which is hydrogen produced by eco-friendly methods such as water electrolysis or biomass extraction, Shanghai-based Envision said on Tuesday, citing the co-operation deal it penned with the Spanish government

The facility will perform processes such as electrolysis, air separation, ammonia synthesis and scalable green ammonia production, it added. It will be powered by locally generated clean energy, including biomass, solar and wind energy, to create a fully green, sustainable industrial ecosystem.

Envision is working closely with the Spanish government to identify an optimal site for the development. This marks a significant step in moving from planning to construction. Construction is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2026.

The net zero industrial park, which will hold Bureau Veritas certification on completion, will greatly accelerate Spain's green hydrogen adoption plans and advance its progress towards reducing the nation's greenhouse gas emissions by 23 percent by 2030, Envision said.

The project is an important part of the cooperation deal Envision signed with the Spanish government in 2022 to promote Spain’s transition to carbon neutrality. In addition to the green hydrogen park, the two parties also agreed to build a battery super factory in Spain and to make plans for a smart wind power equipment base.

Envision already runs a zero-carbon hydrogen ammonia industrial park in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. The first-phase, with an output of 300,000-tons of green ammonia, started in March.

Envision’s unit Envision AESC started building a lithium iron phosphate battery factory in July in Navalmoral de la Mata, Spain which is expected to come online in 2026. The plant will be the first lithium iron phosphate battery giga-factory in Europe, Envision said without disclosing the output.

Envision has two other subsidiaries, namely Envision Energy and Envision Digital. Envision Energy’s core businesses include wind power, energy storage systems and green hydrogen.

Chinese solar giants Longi Green Energy Technology and Trina Solar have also announced green hydrogen projects in Spain over the past two years.
