上海乐高乐园开业引发酒店、民宿预订热潮   2025-07-07

The opening of China’s first Legoland in Shanghai on July 5 has prompted a surge in nearby hotel and homestay bookings, demonstrating the theme park’s immediate impact on local tourism.

Hotel bookings in Jinshan district, where Legoland Shanghai Resort is located, jumped four and a half times in the first four days of this month from a year earlier, according to travel agency Qunar. Local visitors accounted for about 30 percent, while the rest mainly came from Beijing, Qingdao, Chengdu, and Nanjing.

Many visitors have opted for homestays, with a seven-fold surge in bookings for such accommodation in Jinshan for the two-month summer holiday that ends Aug. 31, according to homestay platform Tujia. Family room reservations soared eight times.

Driven by the twin attractions of Shanghai's Disneyland and Legoland resorts, the number of homestay bookings in the city has increased 75 percent over the summer break from a year ago, Tujia noted.

Big theme park projects will directly boost dining, accommodation, transport, and retail in the surrounding area, tourism analyst Zhao Huanyan told Yicai. From Disneyland, which opened nine years ago, to Legoland and the Louis Vuitton boat-shaped concept store that opened recently all underscore Shanghai’s vibrant cultural‑tourism consumption, Zhao pointed out.

Legoland Shanghai, the world's biggest theme park based on the famous plastic toy bricks from Denmark's The Lego Group, underwent nearly two months of internal testing and trial operations before opening to the public. Covering an area of about 318,000 square meters, it is the first Legoland in China and the 11th in the world.

Legoland Shanghai includes a theme park and a hotel, while a land piece on the west side of the resort will be used for future expansion, Chen Jie, general manager of the resort, told Yicai. The park's plan for the next five to 10 years is being developed gradually, Chen added.

"Our deep understanding of the Chinese consumer and our experience of operating in China for over a decade has allowed us to create Legoland Shanghai as the ultimate theme park and hotel destination," said Fiona Eastwood, chief executive of UK entertainment giant Merlin Entertainments, the park's operator.

"It blends the tried and tested Legoland experience with rich Chinese cultural elements, creating a destination that is both globally recognizable and locally resonant, connecting children with their heritage through imaginative play," Eastwood noted.
