“更美好的水岸”推动朱家角艺术季   2025-08-20

French artists and a young painter participate in the 2025 Zhujiajiao International Youth Ink Art Competition.

An international youth art feast unfolded in Shanghai's Zhujiajiao watertown on Monday. Artists from China, France and the United Kingdom, as well as about a hundred young creators, gathered together, witnessing the transformation of the vision of "a better waterfront" into reality through brush and ink.

The 2025 Zhujiajiao International Art Season and the awards ceremony of the 2025 Zhujiajiao International Youth Ink Art Competition were held, featuring creative works by children from home and abroad.

The 10-meter-long ink scroll, "The Five Lakes of Qingpu," a collaboration of students from Zhujiajiao Primary School, combines separate scenes into a whole, blending together the vastness of Dianshan Lake, the tranquility of Yuandang Lake, the wild charm of Dalian Lake, and the elegance of Xiayang Lake.

"When painting Dalian Lake, I deliberately left a blank space, enabling viewers to imagine the small fish in the lake," said 12-year-old Ma Jingyi.

Zhang Yuzhou, one of the creators, shared his story: "To paint the reflection of Xiayang Lake well, I squatted by the lake for three evenings to learn how to use light ink to depict water ripples."

The competition introduced a dual-track mode by setting up a "Present Group" and a "Future Group". The former focuses on a 2025 waterfront lifestyle, while the latter envisions 2035's tech-and-humanities-integrated future.

For the art competition, a total of 210 outstanding works have been selected from 3,500 submissions. This year's award-winning paintings will be put on an exhibition tour in Paris and London, from Tuesday through September 10, at local galleries.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Zhujiajiao Ancient Town Immersive Culture Season has also kicked off, inviting people to step into the cool waterfront of Zhujiajiao.

A series of handicraft experiences and artificial intelligence-related activities are scheduled in the watertown every day except Sundays through the end of August.

People can experience classic Jiangnan (region to the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River) handicrafts such as traditional handmade sachets and round mirrors or interact with the new generation of intelligent robots at the Qing Post Office, which has a history of 122 years.

The much-anticipated Qingcheng Band will be stationed in Zhujiajiao, taking the waterfront scene as a natural stage, and telling the stories of the town with original music.

"When children from different countries gather through art, many precious things happen," said French artist Cecile Brigand. "Art becomes a common ground, and the language of art transcends national borders. In such creative dialogues, every child learns to see in different ways, listen to others, and jointly creates a better world."
