The 2025 national excellent farmers paintings exhibition of Jinshan district kicked off at the Jinshan Museum in Shanghai on Tuesday. Centered on "showcasing the vitality of rural culture in the new era and promoting the innovative development of farmers paintings", the event features three key sections: high-quality exhibitions, sub-district and town tours, and public education programs, bringing this folk art treasure closer to residents and visitors.
This summer, Jinshan successfully hosted the first China rural painting exhibition at the China Art Museum in Shanghai, displaying 544 works and attracting 546,000 visitors. As a continuation and enhancement of that event, the current exhibition has selected 84 outstanding works from modern folk painting townships across China through strict expert evaluation.

These pieces will be showcased sequentially at the museum, cultural center, and federation of literary and art circles in Jinshan. They include works with delicate brushwork depicting spring plowing and autumn harvest in the Yangtze River delta region's water towns, as well as those with rich colors illustrating folk customs in northwest villages, fully presenting the diverse styles and contemporary charm of farmers paintings.
On-site, standout works from across China showcase diverse regional charm. Some depict the scenery of Zhuang villages in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, others capture the lively scenes of the traditional Tibetan New Year with rich and vibrant colors, and representative Jinshan farmers paintings use simple brushwork to portray the many facets of life.

"You see my work Intangible Cultural Heritage Market – steaming rice cake stalls, colorful tie-dyed fabrics, and simple-patterned black pottery. The market stalls are lined up, full of energy," Zhu Xi, a young Jinshan farmer artist, said. "I painted these scenes to let people see directly how intangible cultural heritage integrates into life, so more people can remember this vitality and inheritance."
Beyond the main exhibition, from September to November, the organizers will select some works, combining them with classic Jinshan farmers paintings, for touring exhibitions in sub-districts, towns, cultural and tourism spots, and urban business districts across Jinshan until Dec 17.
