A screenshot of Shanghai composite index on Thursday morningChina's stock market rallied on Thursday morning following an 8-day-long holiday, as the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index surpassed the 3,900-point mark during Thursday's morning trading session, the first time in a decade.
The index has shot up by more than 28 percent since April 7, with a year-to-date cumulative rise of 16 percent.
The Shanghai Composite Index stands at 3931.07 as of 11:30 am on Thursday, while the Shenzhen Component Index and the Nasdaq-style ChiNext Index also rose by 1.75 percent and 1.77 percent, respectively. Thursday is the first trading day after the 8-day-long National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.
A long list of industrial sectors such as nuclear power, non-ferrous minerals, and high bandwidth memory chips led the strong rallying on Thursday morning. The combined trading volume of the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses on Thursday exceeded 1 trillion yuan ($141.44 billion) for the 91st consecutive trading day.
It is expected that China's stock market will likely maintain the stable and robust performance after the long holiday, according to a report by China International Capital Corporation.
Such a strong rally is propelled by a bunch of factors, including the recovery in the profit growth of domestic industrial enterprises, significant progress in global and domestic artificial intelligent industry, as well as the steady growth in the holiday travel data. And, investors are enthusiastic that more pro-growth policy measures could come out as the government works on the country's 15th Five-year Plan (2026-30), the report noted.
