Singapore, Shanghai Sign 18 Project Packs at Sixth Meeting of Comprehensive Cooperation Council

Singapore and Shanghai deepened ties after departments, institutions, and companies from the two cities inked memorandums of understanding for 18 collaborative projects at the sixth meeting of the Singapore-Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperation Council.

The projects signed during the meeting on Wednesday mainly focus on the Belt and Road Initiative, financial cooperation, technological innovation, digital economy, urban governance, and cultural exchanges.

The latest meeting of the SSCCC, which was set up in 2019, was held on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore.

Singapore and Shanghai would hopefully focus on strengthening economic and trade ties, enhancing financial openness and cooperation, promoting mutual empowerment in technology, strengthening the construction of innovation cooperation platforms, deepening industrial development cooperation, and advancing collaboration in the digital economy, green development, and professional services, said Gong Zheng, mayor of the Chinese city.

Despite the ongoing global uncertainties, the Singapore-China relationship has demonstrated resilience and new progress, noted Edwin Tong, minister for law and second minister for home affairs of Singapore. As global financial and innovation hubs, Singapore and Shanghai can team up in areas of mutual interest, including digital utilities, financial services, tech innovation, urban renewal, law, healthcare, and cultural heritage, he added.

Among the penned deals is one between the China arm of DBS Bank and Guotai Haitong Securities, with Ginger Cheng, chief executive officer of the former, expressing hope that the pair will deepen ties in wealth management, capital markets, and various aspects of the financial market.

In addition, Singapore's CrimsonLogic signed a data trade agreement with Shanghai Data Group.

Shanghai is a major financial center in China and a key hub for port trade, which undoubtedly serves as a critical factor for the collaboration between CrimsonLogic and the data group, noted Chee Boon Lim, vice president of commercial growth and accounts at the Singaporean firm, while expressing hope for replicating this collaborative model in other provinces and regions.

Shanghai International Intellectual Property Operation Management signed a deal with Singapore's Kltan to jointly establish mechanisms for mutual recognition of IP information, mutual trust in assessments, and seamless service connectivity.

The tie-up aims to assist Chinese and Singaporean firms in more smoothly conducting technology deployment, risk assessments, and patent transactions in each other's markets, said Pan Xi, chairman of Shanghai International IP Operation Management.
