Shanghai Ocean University received a technical recognition from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization last Wednesday in Rome, honoring its contribution in sustainable aquatic food systems.
To celebrate its 80th anniversary of establishment, the FAO launched the inaugural Global Technical Recognition. It aims to honor the best practices and innovative approaches from around the world that advance global food security, sustainable development and agrifood systems transformation in across six FAO technical areas, namely sustainable livestock transformation, South-South and triangular cooperation, land, soil and water resource management, sustainable aquatic food systems, sustainable forest production and protection, and sustainable plant production and protection.
This global call for submissions received 1,390 applications from 90 countries, with honors ultimately granted to 239 countries and organizations. Among them, 46 outstanding institutions were selected in the "Sustainable Aquatic Food Systems" category, specifically recognized for their significant contributions to sustainable fisheries development and the FAO's Blue Transformation vision.
Among the 46 recognized institutions, Shanghai Ocean University stands as one of only three university recipients. The honor also signifies international recognition of China's approach to fisheries development.
