The exhibition brings together more than 100 works of art and crafts from China and other countries and regions, covering various categories, including ceramics, embroidery, lacquer art, and metalwork.
Along with an international public art forum, the exhibition aims to use oriental craftsmanship as a starting point to explore topics such as cultural diversity, sustainable development, and cross-cultural dialogue in the context of globalization.
The event was organized by the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association and Shanghai University.
Yu Xuemei, vice-president of Shanghai University, said that Eastern traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art are vital for cultural exchange. She noted that the exhibition aims to build a platform for dialogue through art, which can help foster cross-cultural consensus and deepen multilateral relations.
Amine Mechaal, executive director for global engagement at Teachers College, Columbia University, said that collaborations between universities and art institutions are becoming important pathways for promoting intercultural dialogue and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
Antonio Reyes-Gonzales, a research analyst for the Human Development Report Office at the United Nations Development Programme, expressed that the craft wisdom presented in the exhibition offers a unique perspective for addressing global challenges in cultural heritage transmission and protecting human cultural diversity, providing valuable Eastern experience for sustainable human development.
