The Galloping Wonders – Year of the Horse Science and Culture Special Exhibition, jointly organized by the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and the Palace Museum, will open to the public on Feb 17.

A special exhibition celebrating the Year of the Horse, jointly organized by the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and the Palace Museum, will open to the public on Feb 17, marking Lunar New Year's Day.

Themed around "horses", the Galloping Wonders – Year of the Horse Science and Culture Special Exhibition explores the journey of natural evolution, human-horse coexistence, and future inspiration, presenting a multidimensional showcase that blends cultural relics, biological specimens, and digital interaction.

The event features over 20 precious horse-themed cultural artifacts from the Palace Museum, making their debut in Shanghai. These treasures span rituals, military affairs, art, and daily life, including the Painted Grey Pottery Horse Head from the Han Dynasty and the tri-color glazed horse from the Tang Dynasty (618–907).

Digital exhibits, such as Emperor Qianlong in armor on horseback, bring historical narratives to life through cutting-edge technologies like naked-eye 3D and AI. Immersive interactive displays invite visitors to engage with the cultural and scientific significance of horses through visual, tactile, and playful experiences.

Dome theater concerts and online exhibition tours will also be launched during the exhibition, redefining the cultural image of horses through music and live-streaming the entire exhibition to highlight the deep integration of science and technology with culture.

The opening ceremony on Tuesday in the museum introduced Piaopiao, a pony from Shanghai Wildlife Park and ambassador of Shanghai's new cultural and tourism IP, who extended New Year greetings and exhibition invitations.

Online ticket sales for museum visits began at 10:00 am on Feb 11, followed by online movie and theater ticket sales at 10:30 am the same day. Tickets can be purchased through official channels, including the mini-program and the WeChat official account of the museum.

During the Spring Festival, the three museums—Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Natural History Museum, and the Shanghai Planetarium—will maintain regular operating hours from Feb 11 to 17 to accommodate visitor demand.
