Information and intelligent measures have played a vital role in making Shanghai a safer city, Gong Daoan, director of the public security bureau, said on Thursday.

This year, the number of criminal cases have dropped 16.6 percent from the same period last year, while the detention rate has risen 5.8 percent, he said.

Homicide cases in Shanghai have been cleared up 100 percent for three consecutive years.
