Free surgeries for heroes left with scars   2015-06-11

A GOVERNMENT-backed foundation has teamed up with a cosmetology hospital to offer free plastic surgeries to courageous people who are left with scars while helping others or fighting criminals.

Traffic assistant Fang Jiang who fought a knife-wielding attacker in People’s Square in April, and Yang Renjie, who stopped thieves from stealing fish from an aquaculture farm in Chongming Island five years ago, will be the first two beneficiaries. Both of them received injuries on their faces and were hailed as heroes for their brave acts.

Only winners of the Justice and Courage Award, an annual prize honoring heroic deeds, can avail of the free program, which goes a long way to help remove the psychological scars.
