THE 2015 Suzhou Creek Cultural and Art Festival will raise its curtain on Friday.

This year the annual cultural program of Putuo District, to be running for a month will host more than 100 public cultural and art events.

The highlights include an artistic postcard exhibition themed on the history and culture of Suzhou Creek, calligraphy display and contemporary art exhibitions of Russian art college students.

Celebrated musical and dance theaters will be invited to local communities and interact with local audiences.

Officials said that more than 100 locals and foreign expats have also applied for a grand grassroots singing competition. The final will be held on November 15.

Local residents who have an enthusiasm for traditional Chinese operas can also take part in a public showcase of traditional theater excerpts.
