Lanterns light up the holidays 2016-02-14
Yuyuan Garden which was packed with people celebrating the holidays. The popular tourist attraction is currently hosting a lantern festival, which runs through February 25. Each day between 5:30pm and 8pm more than 50 installations are lit to entertain the crowds. One of the most popular of the illuminated figures is an 8-meter-tall Monkey King, which is based on the central character from the classic novel "Journey to the West." Other favorites include models of Guan Yu — the legendary general of the Three Kingdoms (AD 220-280) dynasty; Bao Zheng, aka Lord Bao — the personification of justice; and philosopher Confucius. Entry to the garden is free except between February 20 and 22. Tickets cost 50 yuan (US$7.60) for adults and 30 yuan children on February 20 and 21, rising to 100 yuan and 50 yuan on February 22, which is Lantern Festival Day.
