Gilead Sciences, an American developer of hepatitis C and influenza treatments, will bring its first oncology drug in China to the fifth China International Import Expo along with other novel products.

Gilead will focus on showcasing Trodelvy, a second-line treatment of metastatic triple-negative breast cancer, at the expo, The Paper reported yesterday, citing Jin Fangqian, vice president and general manager of Gilead in China. The first-in-class medicine has been approved to treat patients with an aggressive type of breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body in more than 35 countries and regions. The expo will be held Nov. 5-10.

Moreover, Gilead will display other products involving virology, oncology, and mycology, including Sunlenca, the world's first long-acting human immunodeficiency virus drug that is administered twice a year. The company intends to debut more innovative medicines to the Chinese market, in sync with overseas markets, Jin said.

California-based Gilead will sign a strategic cooperation memorandum with the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone during the event to jointly promote more innovative products and treatments for urgent clinical needs, according to Jin.

The medical company will also sign a three-year cooperation agreement with the Chinese Foundation for Prevention of STD and AIDS during the expo to support the national action plan to eliminate public health hazards related to hepatitis C. Moreover, the pair will launch a pilot project in universities to protect the population from HIV.

The firm has made progress as five years after entering China, Gilead introduced nine innovative antiviral drugs, including several first-in-class medicines, to the market, the GM added.
