Shanghai exhibition features Botticelli masterworks 2023-03-19

Francesco D'Arelli, director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Tiziana D'Angelo, consul general of Italy in Shanghai, and Tie Dingwei, general manager of Tix-Media, jointly announce the upcoming exhibition.
The Italian Consulate in Shanghai and Tix-Media announced on Mar 16 a grand exhibition of Botticelli and other Renaissance masters will take place at the Bund One Art Museum in Shanghai from Apr 28 to Aug 27.
This will be the largest Botticelli exhibition in China, with 10 original paintings by Sandro Botticeli (1445-1510) and 38 by his contemporaries from the collection of the Uffizi Galleries in Italy will be presented in Shanghai, most of which will be making their first public appearance in China.

The important mythological painting Pallas and the Centaur and the Biblical work Adoration of the Magi will be among the Botticelli pieces on exhibition.
The most celebrated Botticelli creations, Birth of Venus and Primavera, are not allowed to travel internationally for exhibition, said Xie Dingwei, general manager of Tix-Media and executive director of Bund One Art Museum. "To help audiences in Shanghai have a glimpse of these celebrated Botticelli masterpieces, we acquired the authorization of Uffizi Galleries to have high-definition 1:1 copies of these two artworks made and exhibited in Shanghai."

Each of the copies were made from more than 1,000 photographs of the original painting, with hand-drawn details to achieve maximum similarity with the artwork. "Never before have Uffizi Galleries allowed such high-definition copies made for these masterpieces, and we believe it is worth the high cost to have them made in Italy and shipped to Shanghai. They will be important supplements to the treasured exhibits from the Uffizi Galleries," Xie said.

Botticelli and the Renaissance will be the second exhibition in an agreement made in 2021 between Tix-Media and the Uffizi Galleries, where the two agreed to jointly present 10 exhibitions at the museum over the coming five years.
The first exhibition of the series was held from Sep 9, 2022 to Jan 8. Uffizi Self-Portrait Masterpieces featured 50 self-portraits by famous artists, from classical masters Raphael and Rembrandt to contemporary artists Yayoi Kusama and Cai Guoqiang.
