Shanghai to host FIA Formula E race again this year   2025-03-27

Shanghai is set to host a race from the ABB Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile Formula E World Championship for the second year in a row.

The all-electric single-seater car race will be held at the Shanghai International Circuit on May 31 and June 1, Yicai learned from the event organizers on Wednesday.

The Shanghai International Circuit hosted the FIA Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix between March 20 and March 23, with more than 220,000 spectators attending the event.

As a global innovation and technology hub, Shanghai is the ideal stage for FE to showcase the future of motorsport in China, said Alberto Longo, co-founder and chief championship officer of FE, adding that he is very pleased to bring FE back to the eastern Chinese city this year.

Unlike F1, FE has placed great emphasis on the Chinese market since the very beginning, choosing Beijing as the location for its inaugural race in September 2014. Afterward, FE races were held in China's Hong Kong, Sanya, and Shanghai.

It is very important for FE to host events in China because it has more than 112 million fans, making it FE's largest fan market globally, Longo noted.

FE has become a major platform for global carmakers to test and develop technologies for electric vehicles. So far, more than a dozen auto brands have participated in this championship since its establishment.
