Summer tourism festival combines education with entertainment   2025-07-15

 

 

The Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden features lush greenery.

A tourism carnival targeting families began last Friday in Songjiang District as a highlight of the ongoing summer tourism season of the 2025 Shanghai Tourism Festival, featuring more than 40 water activities and 20 natural exploration programs.

Diversified activities covering science popularization, art, sports, food and pets will be rolled out in the city, with Songjiang the main venue, creating an immersive experience that combines education with entertainment.

Consumption coupons will be issued to boost family tourism in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Shanghai Film Park

The Summer Carnival Season at the park brings coolness and joy to visitors. The event lasts four weeks.

"Exploring the Millennium Miaojiang" features performances by Miao and Dong ethnic minority intangible cultural heritage performers.

Torch dragon dances are combined with water activities, and various interactive activities will arouse childhood memories.

The park has also prepared a parent-child AR interactive detective tour which invites tourists to wear exquisite costumes, take a journey through time, and participate in an immersive and unique filming experience in "A Fantastic Journey of Movies."

Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden

The pleasant chirping of cicadas refreshes the summer night at Chenshan Botanical Garden, where the lights of the greenhouses shine like gems in the dark night.

Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden has a vibrant green environment.

The annual and highly anticipated "Magic Night at Chenshan" summer camp started on Saturday, offering a unique summer night journey that combines scientific spirit, natural experience and night time exploration for teenagers.

Led by professional nature instructors, children will walk through various specialized gardens in the garden, identify the forms of plants and trees, touch tree bark, listen to the rustling sounds of nocturnal animals, and feel the breath and pulse of the plant kingdom.

They will also track and observe those wonderful insect neighbors that are active at night and rest during the day. In the aquatic botanical garden, they will learn about water lilies and the different forms of various aquatic plants.

Playa Maya Water Park

An array of exciting Thai-style activities promises a cool summer for tourists.

Three water-splash activities of the "Thai Wave Carnival" at Playa Maya Water Park ignite summer passion.

The entire park, with more than 40 large-scale water amusement facilities, has been transformed into a 200,000-square-meter Thai-style paradise, bringing young trendsetters and parent-child families a Thai-style summer journey with a tropical beach, Thai urban life blocks, and artistic Oh Poi Trail.

Diverse performances will run day and night this summer, featuring Barbie Carnival, Blues Time and Thai Wave Electronic Music Show.

There are also themed pop-up and Thai boxing performances, and authentic Thai food and thousand-light wish parties which will further enrich people's experience.

Drone shows and Thai-style dances are part of the celebration.

The Guangfulin Cultural Relics Site

Elsewhere, the 2025 Shanghai Fairy Tale Festival is also on the agenda. With the theme of "Reading · Boundless," this year's festival breaks the boundaries of reading and integrates elements such as culture, education, art, and technology.

The event covers 199 child-friendly city reading spaces across the city. It launches more than 400 reading activities, covering theme activities, lectures, exhibitions, and aesthetic education classes, presenting a reading carnival for children in the city.

At Malu Grape Park in Jiading District, a grape culture festival is underway with grape picking activities, and summer camps held at Oriental Green Land in Qingpu District.

The Zhoupu Flower Sea Scenic Area in the Pudong New Area is hosting a water splashing electric music festival, while the Zikawei Library in Xuhui District will launch a series of reading activities in August.

The Shanghai Petjoy Championships will take place at Shanghai International Fashion Center in Yangpu District on July 26 and 27.

Night tours to observe insects and fireflies are held at Shanghai Botanical Garden in Xuhui District.
