Shanghai doctors perform successful surgery on British teen with 'folded spine' condition   2025-08-04

Since Shanghai designated its first batch of 13 tertiary Grade A hospitals as pilot institutions for international medical tourism, an increasing number of international patients have begun turning to Shanghai hospitals for top-tier, high-difficulty surgical procedures.

Following its successful surgery last year on the Indian "spine-folding" teenager rejected by multiple countries, Shanghai Xinhua Hospital recently treated a 12-year-old British girl with severe scoliosis.

With the support of a multidisciplinary expert team, the surgery was another success.

After the operation, the teenager can stand straight and "grew" 8 centimeters taller.
