Shanghai launches world's first joint lab for zero-magnetic interventional medicine   2025-08-31

To advance early detection and intervention of heart, brain, and cancer diseases, as well as promote biomedical development, the world's first joint laboratory on zero-magnetic interventional medicine has been established at Shanghai Pudong Hospital.

Zero magnetism refers to the extremely weak magnetic field signals emitted by human organs. This frontier medical technology leverages a near-zero magnetic environment to detect quantum spin magnetic field signals, enabling high-precision acquisition and high-resolution imaging of major organs. The approach allows for early-stage, non-invasive, and radiation-free diagnosis.

According to academician Fang Jiancheng, a leading scientist in the field, strong magnetic fields gave rise to revolutionary technologies such as resonance, while extremely weak magnetic fields open a new path for non-invasive and damage-free human body scanning.

Zero-magnetic interventional medicine combines cutting-edge zero-magnetic research with advanced international medical practices. For the first time, functional structural medicine and bioinformatics based on human spin quantum sensing are being applied to achieve super-early intervention and organ tissue repair through integrated diagnosis and treatment, Fang noted.

The joint laboratory is led by Dr Li Maoquan of Shanghai Pudong Hospital, working in collaboration with top hospitals and pharmaceutical companies across the nation to build the world's first zero-magnetic medicine zone in Pudong, covering scientific research, clinical practice, and new device development.

Dr Li Jiyu, president of Pudong Hospital, said the new laboratory will provide stronger evidence and support for early screening, diagnosis, and treatment of heart and brain diseases, ultimately benefiting the public.
