French firm highlights childhood respiratory health in Shanghai   2025-11-25

As respiratory illnesses rise during the colder months, more than 30 families took part in a community event in Hongkou District last Sunday. Opella, a consumer healthcare company based in France, the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Shanghai Children’s Hospital launched the initiative to raise awareness of childhood respiratory health and early disease prevention. During the event the educational video “Protecting Young Lungs: Little Bear’s Hope” was also released.

Pneumonia accounts for 8% of all-cause mortality among children in China and is the leading cause of death from infectious diseases in children under five. “Many young patients become anxious about seeing a doctor, and this sometimes causes families to postpone care,” said Wang Chao, associate chief physician in the department of respiratory medicine at Shanghai Children’s Hospital. “Presenting medical knowledge in a way that children can understand — and that parents can easily apply — helps make prevention and timely treatment more achievable.”

At the event, Opella announced a donation of 100,000 yuan to the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation. Leven Yang, General Manager of Opella China, noted the company would continue supporting health education and community care programs with social partners to help promote self-health management and contribute to the “Healthy China 2030” vision.
