HKU Business School launches Shanghai center, forging new cross-city cooperation   2025-12-17

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Business School has officially launched its Shanghai center, a key milestone in Hong Kong-Shanghai collaboration for deeper academic exchanges, industry collaboration and technological innovation.

The center, resulting from a cooperation agreement signed last year between HKU and Shanghai's Huangpu District, marks a major step forward in the strategic expansion of HKU Business School and the university's contribution to China's national development.

Located at the Bund SOHO, the center, covering 7,000 square meters, will focus on academic development, industry conversion services and sci-tech innovation incubation. Driven by the dual engines of digital intelligence and fin-tech research, it aims to become an international innovation and commercial cooperation hub that highlights both technology and humanities.

Founded in 1911, HKU Business School holds top-tier EQUIS and AACSB accreditations, boasting leading rankings in 2026 QS and 2024 UTD evaluations. The Shanghai center will deliver flagship programs, including EMBA, IMBA, and DBA, integrating cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies to nurture global business elites, according to the university.

Its core mission is to bridge Hong Kong's international advantages with Shanghai's industrial strength, facilitating knowledge exchange, talent development and resource integration. By connecting the two cities' business ecosystems, the center aims to drive innovation and empower professionals to excel in the global marketplace.

"We expect the center to play its role as a bridge, an innovation leader, and a disseminator of experience to deliver landmark achievements in international cooperation, industry-education integration, and achievement transformation," said Zhao Zhen, deputy director of the Shanghai Education Commission, at the launch ceremony.

Max Shen, vice president of HKU, hailed Shanghai's vibe and speed, especially in science and technology advancement. He expressed his anticipation that HKU's advanced academic philosophy and strong technological research capabilities will unlock the vast potential of Shanghai's dynamic economy.
